(Sacramento, CA) – In response to today’s appointment by Governor Brown of V. Manny Perez to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, Senator Jeff Stone (R-Riverside County) issued this statement:
“After nearly five months, I am glad to learn Governor Brown has finally appointed someone who will attempt to fill the enormous shoes of the late John Benoit as the Fourth District Riverside County Supervisor.
“As a former Riverside County Supervisor myself, I wish Manny Perez the best of luck in his new position and look forward to working with him to improve the quality of life for the residents of Riverside County.
“My sincere hope is that Supervisor Perez will be able to convince the Governor that Riverside County is a priority and our citizens will be treated fairly and justly when it comes to unfunded mandates and proposals to balance the state budget on the backs of local government.”
The Fourth District seat on the Board of Supervisors became vacant when Supervisor John Benoit passed away in December of 2016. Under California law the Governor has the sole responsibility to fill a vacancy on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
Perez will fill out the remaining 18 months of Benoit’s term as 4th District Supervisor.
The Fourth District includes much of the Eastern portion of Riverside County, including the cities of the Coachella Valley, and extends all the way to the Arizona border.
